CONOR DWYER MOVING TO NORTH BALTIMORE AQUATIC CLUB

Hi everyone! Welcome to another blog. This time, as you could read in the title, we’re going to talk about Conor Dwyer and his kind of recent change of swimming club.

You might remember he used to train at the University of Florida next to Gregg Troy and one of the greatest swimmers ever, Ryan Lochte, but after the Charlotte Grand Prix, everything changed.

Following the Charlotte Grand Prix Conor and other young swimmers were invited to attend to a swimming camp at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado with Bob Bowman (former Michael Phelps’ coach). That camp lasted around 2 weeks, where we could see an exhausted Conor Dwyer after all the hard training sessions. He didn’t even had time for playing video games, so we guess he didn’t use as much as he wanted that big screen he brought with him all the way to Colorado.

Those were two hard and tiring weeks that paid off in Santa Clara Grand Prix, where we witnessed a faster Conor Dwyer and according to him, he improved his speed thanks to Bob Bowman. Here you can watch the interview

It’s remarkable to say, that was one of his best swim meets so far and that made us question ourselves if he was going to stay with Bob Bowman or if he was going back with Gregg Troy. We knew the answer a few days later, when he tweeted: “In Baltimore for the next 3 weeks till World Trials. Excited to get some rest and hang in this beautiful city @coach_bowman @MichaelPhelps” (he deleted that tweets a few minutes later).

At least it was confirmed that he was going to be in Baltimore until World Trials, but we suspected he was not going to stay there for just 3 weeks…
Then, we confirmed our suspicious when we found out he was staying at Michael Phelps’ place and he started to hang out with “new” friends such as Allison Schmitt, Chase Kalisz and Yannick Agnel.

Conor gave us many clues to discover what was going on:

First: Michael started using the same filter as Conor on his Instagram pics

Conor´s pic

Michael´s pic

Second: Conor borrowed Michael’s cup

Third: we supposed Conor told Michael about MKSart (a Chicago artist) because Michael got one of his paintings

Fourth: Conor shared naps with Michael’s dogs

Fifth: Conor and Michael started playing golf together in Baltimore

Sixth: Conor posted a couple of videos at Michael’s house

After all of these clues, it was obvious he had left Gainesville not for just 3 weeks, and at the Phillips 66 Nats World Championship Trials 2013, Conor gave us the big news officially in some interviews, where he even told the press, he was very happy training at his new swim club with all the support from his new teammates and also Michael Phelps, who kindly offered Conor to stay at his house.

As we said before, Conor quicky made new friends in Baltimore, not just his new roommate (Michael), he became friend with Yannick Agnel and they even picture themselves in the podium in Barcelona 2013. In words of Yannick “I was with Conor (Dwyer) a month ago and we said we were going to be 1st and 2nd in Barcelona, and it finally happened”. So glad both of them made their big dream coming true.

This entire situation was a big surprise to us because honestly we didn’t know how to take all of these changes but according to Conor, he was done with all the college experience and he needed to look forward and his best options were Baltimore and of course Bob Bowman.

Apparently everyone were as surprise as we were, even his former coach, Gregg Troy, who was kind of mad at first, but then he accepted and wish Conor the best.
We totally understand Gregg because, even to us, it has been difficult to get use to all these changes because we met Conor as a Gator and it was so natural to us to see him hanging out with other gators like Ryan Lochte, Elizabeth Beisel, Arkady Vyatchanin, his roommate Sebastien Rousseau and the Joyce Bros. So it was kind of strange to see him hanging out now with new friends.

And we don’t know if any of you guys noticed that Conor didn’t attend to any of Ryan’s birthday parties in Las Vegas (as he did last year), and this was kind of weird because Conor was also in Vegas with another Olympian, Nathan Adrian, so we really don’t know why Conor didn’t party with Ryan and Cullen Jones.

Now that you know that Conor now belongs to North Baltimore Aquatic Club at least to Rio 2016, it’s time for us to give our very personal opinion about it (please don’t judge us, it’s just our point of view).

Clearly Baltimore has improved a lot Conor’s swimming (and this is the most important thing), since we can see he is faster than before and we’re so happy for him, because now Conor receives the recognition he deserves for being such a talented swimmer. But with all of this, also came a change of attitude.

You might be wondering what are we referring to, but we’ve noticed that Conor used to interact more with his fans, not just through the social networks, also at the swim meets, where he gladly used to take pics with his fans, and don’t misunderstand us, he still does it, but now he’s not as approachable as before. We are telling this because we’ve read some comments from different fans who attended to Santa Clara Grand Prix where Conor showed a “fake smile” (according to fans) on every picture he took with them.
Personally this attitude reminds us a little bit to Michael Phelps (this is just our impression, of course you might think different).

We try to understand Conor, sometimes is tiring to get too much attention and you just need to take a break of that; or maybe it has been kind of difficult for him to adapt to his “new” lifestyle. But hopefully we’ll have the “old” Conor back soon. In the meantime we still love him and just like always we’ll be supporting him no matter what.

Remember, the most important of all, as we mentioned before, is that Conor has become a better and faster swimmer. And without a doubt, it’s because of Baltimore and Bob Bowman.

Lastly, we just want to wish Conor the best of luck in Baltimore and we will be so happy to see him wearing so many medals in all the upcoming meets, including Rio 2016 and Guadalajara 2017 (finally such an important swim meet is taking place in our country, yay!)

Well guys that was all for this post and of course we are opened to hear your thoughts.

See you next time.
